Professor's "Last Lecture" illustrates power of self-control to overcome adversity

Randy Pausch, a 47-year old married father of three, battles pancreatic cancer and doctors give him only months to live. In this 10 minute video, he brings life to Galatians 5:22; "The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control."

With the “fruit of self control," we decide how we react to circumstances. Anger, fear and doubt are choices. My self-pity parties are a choice (no one ever shows up!).

In the 30 years since turning management of my life over to the Lord, I've developed the ability to shrug things off that in the past would really "get to me".

I hope Randy will inspire you to understand that with God's help we can be positive about our adversities. Those who decide to "go it alone" in life experience more difficulty and suffer a lack of joy and happiness.

God Bless,

Foster****

Foster: Grteetings from Madrid, Spain!I remember that "30 years ago" too,in June of 78, when the Holy Spirit moved me to write you a letter and send you Charles Colson's book "Born Again". I'm extremely glad that I obeyed and will be eternally grateful that you responded to the message! What a thrill to read your material and realize how the Lord is using your gifts to the benefit of many! God bless you my brother! I hope to see you at the RL 50th. This will be the first time I will be able to attend since 78. Kindest and cordial regards, Your brother and friend. Vic

What a wonderful, courageous and inspiring lecture! The fact that the good professor is close to death gives it an unusually dynamic and powerful impact. It reminds me of what the late great Christian thinker and philosopher Francis Sheaffer said when a reporter asked him after he been diagnosted with terminal cancer, "Dr Sheaffer ,do you have an observation or something to comment now that you know you are terminal?" Dr. Shaeaffer replied,"we're all terminal." that's not a pessimistic unthinking viewpoint but a factual reality. The good news is that we can believe the gospel and have eternal life! John 3:16 "For god so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."
