According to Former CentCom Commander General John Abizaid, Al Qaeda is clearly winning the battlefield online

Gen. John Abizaid knows al Qaeda – he fought them in Iraq. Abizaid points to both Sunni and Shia extremism as particular concerns, but also our continued dependence on oil from the Middle East. He notes that, much like Mein Kampf, which proclaimed the purposes of the Nazis, Islamists have used the internet to declare their intentions, and much like the Americans in the 1930’s, we, today have not heeded their clearly stated goals. Abizaid says that Islamists are spreading this word through over 6,000 websites.
