Helping Peaceful Muslims

Central Asia Institute
Promoting and supporting community-based education, especially for girls, in remote regions of Pakistan and Afghanistan, the Institute’s model for development involves locally-initiated, community-driven projects with a focus on developing innovative techniques that encourage people to take responsibility for their own well-being and vitality. Founded by Greg Mortensen, the story of CAI’s inception is chronicled in New York Times Bestseller, Three Cups of Tea: One Man’s Mission to Promote Peace, One School at a Time.

Greg Mortensen
Greg Mortensen authored the New York Times Bestseller, Three Cups of Tea. On a K2 expedition, he unexpectedly stumbled upon a remote, tribal village in northern Pakistan. Realizing there was no education for girls, he took it upon himself to build a school for the children of the village of Korphe. Working to promote his cause, he started the Central Asia Institute, whose focus is promoting and supporting community-based education in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Greg has helped open more than 60 schools that are educating children in need.

Crescent Project
The Project equips Christians to reach out to the Muslim community. While studying in America, Fouad Masri realized the importance of preparing American Christians to reach out to the growing community of internationals, especially Muslims. Most Muslim ministries have focused on sending full-time missionaries overseas to Muslim countries. Crescent Project has used an entirely different approach: train the local church to reach out to the Muslims in the community. Since 1993, Crescent Project instructors have trained over 5000 Christians throughout North America.

Fouad Masri
After personally experiencing the forgiveness of Christ and the freedom He offers, Fouad dedicated his life to extending that hope and freedom to his Muslim friends and neighbors. Raised in the war zone of Beirut, Lebanon, he went on to earn an MA in Islamic Studies from Fuller Theological Seminary. An influential and rapidly-growing Muslim population in North America (now nearly 7 million strong) caught Fouad’s attention. Believing he was called by God to train and equip Christians to reach their Muslim neighbors, Fouad founded Crescent Project.
