Muslims for Modernity

American Islamic Congress
A civil rights organization with offices in Washington, D.C., Boston, Cairo and Basra, AIC promotes tolerance and the exchange of ideas among Muslims and between other peoples. AIC challenges the increasingly negative perceptions of Muslims by advocating responsible leadership and ‘two-way’ interfaith understanding. The Islamic Society for Liberty and Modernity (I.S.L.A.M.) provides a fresh, yet theologically valid interpretation of the Holy Quran and other Islamic texts using the traditional concept of Ijtihad (extrapolating meaning from scripture). I.S.L.A.M’s goal is to revive Islam, save it from anachronistic interpretations, and make it suitable to every time and place, according to the words of prophet Mohamed (PBUH).
