Reminds me of similar scenarios in the states, from “Piss Christ”, featuring a crucifix in urine, to “The Holy Virgin Mary”, featuring Mary covered in elephant dung.  Yet, we didn’t arrest these artists.  Do you think a double standard exists?  It seem the creators of South Park TV show constantly poke fun at Christian figures (Virgin Mary, Jesus Christ), yet when they feature Muhammad, their own network censors the show.   Click here to read WSJ article, Why Islam Is Unfunny for a Cartoonist. Tue, 30 November 1999 0:00:00 GMT 20333 The democratic process: Kicking candidates off the ballot in Illinois http://www.FosterFriess.com/articles/20334/ The Chicago Tribune reports: “[In] 1996, operatives for Barack Obama … began the tedious process of challenging hundreds of signatures on the nominating petitions of state Sen. Alice Palmer, the longtime progressive activist from the city's South Side.  And they kept challenging petitions until every one of Obama's four Democratic primary rivals was forced off the ballot…. A close examination of Obama's first campaign clouds the image he has cultivated throughout his political career: The man now running for president on a message of giving a voice to the voiceless first entered public office not by leveling the playing field, but by clearing it.” All of this was perfectly legal and Obama justifies it by saying: “If you can win, you should win and get to work doing the people’s business.”  (Freddoso.  The Case against Barack Obama) More from the Toronto Star on Obama’s efforts disqualifying opponents. Obama [had]," McCain told the National Urban League – Townhall.com Education is one of Obama’s favorite topics, yet Chicago schools produce dismal results thanks in part to his protection of teachers’ unions.  Chicago public schools spend $10,550 per pupil (20% above the national average) and have the shortest school day of any major city in Illinois.  In 2007 the union took on Mayor Daley and came away with no extra hours but significant pay increases for the next four years.  Obama: “I owe those unions.  When their leaders call, I do my best to call them back right away.  I don’t consider this corrupting in any way; I don’t mind feeling obligated…” Obama offers mild rhetoric about merit-pay for teachers but reassures them that such “merit” will not be determined by student achievement, but instead by a measure chosen by the teachers unions, and only in exchange for six-figure salaries.  (Freddoso) Tue, 30 November 1999 0:00:00 GMT 20335 The democratic process. 4: Public financing http://www.FosterFriess.com/articles/20336/ Obama originally stated that he “strongly supports public financing…you can change the rules on lobbying here in Washington, but if we’re still getting financed primarily from individual contributions, then those with the most money are still going to have the most influence.”  (Freddoso) He then became the first presidential candidate in history not to take matching funds for the general election.  On June 19th, with record contributions, Obama realized “those with the most money are still going to have the most influence,”… but now, Obama had the most money. Obama explained he might need the extra money to compete with outside “527 groups.”  Although in 2004, pro-Democrat 527s outspent pro-Republican groups $282 million to $111 million. This video highlights Obama’s hypocrisy on Public Financing.  Watch Obama try to explain himself. Tue, 30 November 1999 0:00:00 GMT 20336 Obama’s record on bipartisan cooperation and reform http://www.FosterFriess.com/articles/20337/ “The media have uncritically applied to [Obama] the ‘reformer’ label because of his promises to change Washington.  It seems unimportant that he has done virtually nothing while in Washington to change it.” (Freddoso) Washing Times reports, Records show McCain more bipartisan: “Since 2005, Mr. McCain has led as chief sponsor of 82 bills, on which he had 120 Democratic co-sponsors (220 total), for an average of 55%. He worked with Democrats on 50 of his bills, and of those, 37 times Democrats outnumber Republicans as co-sponsors. Mr. Obama, meanwhile, sponsored 120 bills, of which Republicans co-sponsored just 26, and on only five bills did Republicans outnumber Democrats. Mr. Obama gained 522 total Democratic co-sponsors but only 75 Republicans, for an average of 13% of his co-sponsors.” Fifteen earmark related bills have come before the Senate during Obama’s term.  He only voted on six of these, and voted against four of the reforms bills.  After Katrina, Sen. Coburn twice proposed pulling earmarked money (for things like baseball stadiums and visitor’s centers) to shore up levees in N.O., Obama voted against redirecting these earmarks twice.  After the bridge collapse in MN, Coburn tried to redirect federal bike path earmarks to bridge maintenance.   Obama voted to keep the bike path earmarks safe.  Taxpayers for Common Sense: Obama was the sole sponsor for earmarks totaling $10.7 million in fiscal 2008.  In 2007, Obama earmarked $1 million for U of Chicago Medical Center.  His wife is vice president of the center and received a pay raise ($121,910 to $316,962) the same year Obama was elected to the Senate.   When questioned about this earmark, Obama replied it was “probably something that we should have passed on to [IL Senator] Durbin.”  Suggesting that if his earmark could be seen as corrupt, the solution was to hide is by having a friend sponsor it. One TV ad gives Obama credit for welfare reform in Illinois which, the ad proclaims, reduced the rolls by 80%. But there’s one problem - Obama opposed the 1996 welfare reform act at the time. Tue, 30 November 1999 0:00:00 GMT 20337 Does Health Insurance = Health Care? http://www.FosterFriess.com/articles/20338/ Obama wants to include those who lack insurance but make too much to qualify for Medicaid or SCHIP in a new government dictated health insurance plan.  He claims this program would have “affordable premiums, co-pays and deductibles,” and subsidies for those who need them.  Parents’ insurers would be required to cover children to the age of 25.  He proposes a new “non-insurance tax” (unspecified flat percentage of company payroll) which creates a “moral hazard” by incentivizing companies to drop their coverage and accept the tax.  The only way to remove this hazard is to make the new tax prohibitively high, which would drive more business out of the U.S. as the business environment becomes uncompetitive. Obama’s plan contains five methods for “reining in medical costs” but none produce enough revenue to pay for the program.  In 2000 Obama gave a speech advocating price-controls for prescription drugs.  (Remember the results of government price-controls during the 70s?) In his book, Obama worries about the creation of tax-exempt Health Savings Accounts “What if you work for an employer who doesn’t offer a health-care plan?”  HSAs are personal and portable and allow you to save money before taxes.  How is this program detrimental to those with (or without) insurance? The federal version of Born Alive passed unanimously 98-0 in the US Senate with Sens. Kennedy and Boxer speaking in support on the senate floor. It passed overwhelmingly by voice vote in the US House. President Bush signed it into law on August 5, 2002.  As chairman of the IL Senate Health & Human Services Committee, Obama singlehandedly stopped the identical wording of the federal bill from being introduced in IL in 2003. Tue, 30 November 1999 0:00:00 GMT 20340 The realities of Ethanol http://www.FosterFriess.com/articles/20341/ Obama is a big supporter of Ethanol.  His energy plan would outlaw new cars that can’t run high-ethanol blends.  Ethanol has been shown to drive up food prices, exhaust water supplies, exacerbate smog and drive up gasoline prices.  It takes the energy equivalent of four gallons of ethanol to farm, ship and process just five gallons of ethanol.  In 2007 Federal and state subsidies totaling between $6.3-$8.7 billion amounted to about $9.00 in subsidies per gallon of ethanol produced.  Congress has since doubled the ethanol mandate with Obama voting for the bill. Tue, 30 November 1999 0:00:00 GMT 20341 Obama on drilling http://www.FosterFriess.com/articles/20342/ Obama: “The U.S. has 3% of the world’s oil reserves.  We use 25% of the world’s oil.  We can’t drill our way out of the problem.”  But focusing on domestic reserves ignores the fact that America is the third-largest oil producer in 2006 and we currently produce about 40% of our annual consumption. Tue, 30 November 1999 0:00:00 GMT 20344 Obama’s record on taxes http://www.FosterFriess.com/articles/20345/ Obama:  “The truth is, in order to get things like universal healthcare and [a] revamped education system then someone is going to have to give up a piece of their pie so someone else can have more.” Obama just voted for a budget that would raise the taxes on single persons with income above $32,000 He has voted dozens of times to raise federal taxes and pays no heed to the concept that lower marginal tax rates help to promote investment and employment, instead concluding that the government needs more money and the rich should be happy to contribute.    Obama:  “Let’s be clear, the rich in America have little to complain about.” Tue, 30 November 1999 0:00:00 GMT 20345 Obama on Capital gains http://www.FosterFriess.com/articles/20346/ Obama stated in an interview that if elected he plans to raise the top capital gains rate from 15% to somewhere between 20% and 28%, although he has since flip flopped several times on capital gains.  Watch this 30 sec video. Tue, 30 November 1999 0:00:00 GMT 20346 Obama on Death tax http://www.FosterFriess.com/articles/20347/ Obama voted to preserve Illinois death tax and he proposes raising the federal death tax to 55%. Tue, 30 November 1999 0:00:00 GMT 20347 Obama on U.S. competitiveness and Trade http://www.FosterFriess.com/articles/20348/ In The Audacity of Hope Obama derides American demands that “developing countries eliminate trade barriers that protect them from competition, even as we steadfastly protect our own constituencies from exports that could help lift poor countries out of poverty.”   This did not prevent him from voting for the farm bill which protected American interests over the alleviation of global poverty.  The bill even bars the U.S. from providing food aid by purchasing crops from the developing countries we try to feed.  Bush vetoed the bill demanding this provision be changed.  Obama voted to override the veto.  (Freddoso) Without rejecting free trade in principle, Obama has rejected it in almost every instance.  He has only voted for one free trade agreement, with the Sultanate of Oman, opposing agreements with Colombia, Panama and South Korea.  Obama states: “government policies can boost workers’ wages without hurting the competitiveness of U.S. firms,” and he proposes“ a new tax on small businesses that do not provide health care to their employees,” ignoring the fact that many of them simply cannot afford to provide this benefit.  He voted in 2003 to repeal tax credits for “educational and vocational” employee training, but voted “no” on the Central American Free trade agreement in order to “register a protest against what I considered to be the White House’s inattention to the losers from free trade.”   As if the government had the monopoly on providing worker training. Tue, 30 November 1999 0:00:00 GMT 20348 Obama on 2nd Amendment http://www.FosterFriess.com/articles/20349/ During his Senate campaign, Obama backed federal legislation that would ban citizens from carrying weapons, except for law enforcement.  Obama: “[This] will prevent other states flawed concealed weapons laws from threatening the safety of Illinois residents.” Obama, a former constitutional law professor, supported the D.C. gun ban and declared it constitutional.  Watch this 3 min Fox News Clip about this 2nd Amendment flip-flop from Obama. Tue, 30 November 1999 0:00:00 GMT 20349 Obama on the Iraq war http://www.FosterFriess.com/articles/20350/ Watch this compilation of different positions on withdrawing from Iraq (50 sec), all from Senator Obama. Mr. Obama bases his campaign on his superior judgment, and that in turn is based on his speech against the war in Iraq. Of course, he never made a vote against the war, as at the time he was in the Illinois legislature, not the U.S. Senate. He gave the speech at an anti-war rally in the liberal Hyde Park section in Chicago. Since he's been in the Senate, he's been wrong on every issue related to Iraq. He claimed that the Anbar Awakening took place as a result of Democrats' congressional victories, but it began in September 2006, two months before the voting took place. He opposed not only the troop surge, but also the strategic changes that took place along with it, that did so much to enable the victory. He said the American military had nothing to do with the Anbar Awakening or with the retreat of the Sadr militia, something denied by the Iraqi military and by the Iraqi Sunnis themselves. To bolster his foreign policy credentials, he picked Sen. Joe Biden as vice president. Sen. Biden voted for the war in Iraq, which vote Sen. Obama views as the symbol of bad judgment.  So even Sen. Obama admits Sen. Biden has bad judgment. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1q9Q0OtJ4g  (3:47) Sen. Biden also comes up with wacky ideas of his own such as splitting Iraq into three parts for the Kurds, Shias, and Sunnis. He also voted against the first Gulf War, even after Iraq had invaded Kuwait and threatened Saudi Arabia and the rest of the Middle East. He opposed the surge. He opposed Reagan's build-up to fight international communism. Experience clearly does not equate to good judgment. Watch: An Iraq Veteran has a personal message for Barack Obama. Tue, 30 November 1999 0:00:00 GMT 20350 Obama on Defense spending http://www.FosterFriess.com/articles/20351/ In a July 2nd speech, Obama said: “We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we’ve set.  We’ve got to have a Civilian National Security Force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.”  Secretary of Defense Robert Gates came up with the idea for a more modern State Department and a "civilian national security force" that could "deploy teams that combine agricultural specialists and engineers and linguists and cultural specialists who are prepared to go into some of the most dangerous areas alongside the military."   Watch this (15 sec) clip from Obama’s speech.  Obama’s camp inexplicably deleted references to the initiative from his website while others mysteriously disappeared from transcripts of the speech distributed by the campaign. Tue, 30 November 1999 0:00:00 GMT 20351 Obama on Iran http://www.FosterFriess.com/articles/20352/ Obama called for negotiations without preconditions with Ahmadinejad of Iran, Chavez of Venzuela, and Castro of Cuba. Even Senator Obama recognized the folly of this idea, so he backed off of it after an explosion of criticism. He thinks sweet talk solves all problems, and when a problem calls for something beyond sweet talk, he’s stumped. He speaks loudly and often, but carries a toothpick-size stick which he is afraid to use.  Another example of Mr. Obama's naiveté was his comment that Iran is a small country not to be feared.
