Wall Street Journal writes, “No one in Washington has done more to shake up the political establishment over the past twelve months than U.S. Senator Jim DeMint.”
Senator John Cornyn, Chairman of the National Republican Senate Committee, says Senator Jim DeMint’s Senate Conservatives Fund (SCF) may actually hurt Republicans instead of helping them in the 2010 election cycle. Senator DeMint’s SCF favors long-shot candidates like Marco Rubio in Florida who generally create a stir for establishment Republicans.
HuffingtonPost writes Senator DeMint is “something of a tea party hero, even a potential conservative kingmaker.” SCF describes itself as “a political action committee dedicated to electing strong conservatives to the United States Senate. We do not support liberal Republicans and we are not affiliated with the Republican Party or any of its campaign committees.”
The core of SCF policy goals include:
- Strengthen national security
- Oppose appeasement
- Eliminate wasteful spending and keep taxes low
- Promote energy security
- Secure borders
- Expand private health insurance
- Give parents more school choices
- Reform Social Security and Medicare
- Confirm good judges
- Promote the American Dream by supporting and defending the Constitution of the United States
One of the earliest supporters of Marco Rubio’s Senate campaign, SCF contributed, raised, bundled, or spent $622,910.74 supporting candidates thus far for 2010 election cycle. Here’s where the $$ went (as of April 1, 2010)…
- Marco Rubio (FL) = $343,464.25
- Chuck DeVore (CA) = $150,947.44
- Pat Toomey (PA) = $60,870.23
- Michael Williams (TX) = $32,981.55
